In this special edition of Illustrator: The Basics for the Strategies in Retail Promotion class, you'll learn the basics of working with Adobe Illustrator. We'll explore basic skills like working with color, creating and combining shapes, and using gradients. We'll create a basic landscape drawing during the first session, and the second session will focus on skills that will help when creating a floor plan for a retail store.
To get started, download the excercise files in the following section and extract them to the desktop on your computer. (Need help with this? Read the instructions for downloading and extracting exercise files on the page Getting Started with Exercise Files.)
Following is a list of additional resources you may find useful when working with Illustrator on your own:
Illustrator: The Basics – Using the Pen Tool (video): This video was from a previous version of Illustrator: The Basics, so the Illustrator interface looks slightly different and a different version of the Pen Practice file is used here. However, the Pen tool works exactly the same in this video as it does in the current version of Illustrator.
There's more to Illustrator: The Basics than what we'll be covering in Monday and Wednesday's sessions! If you want to check out the content we didn't cover (including how to work with artboards or how to create basic logos), or if you'd like to earn a certificate for having worked through the training's content, learn more and check out the full version of Illustrator: The Basics here.
