• Thurs, Aug 29: Introduction to Virtual Reality with Bill Sherman, Chauncey Frend, and Tassie Gniady.  Virtual reality immerses a real-world user in a simulated environment via the use of 3D media and advanced interactions with the environment. Recent innovations such as Oculus headsets, HTC Vive, Gear VR, and Google Cardboard have disrupted the virtual reality sector. Come learn about virtual reality opportunities and creations here at IU and how you can make best use of these new technologies.

• Thurs, Sep 05: Virtual Reality Expedition - xR for the Humanities with Chauncey Frend and Tassie Gniady.  Come try out the latest innovations in virtual reality. Put on a headset and immerse yourself in content created by other members of the IU community as well as some of the best curated applications available now.

• Thurs, Sep 12: Virtual Reality Guest Lecture with Tori Galloway.  Come hear members of IU's Center for Underwater Science talk about their process, motivation, and outcomes from creating immersive experiences of shipwrecks.

• Thurs, Sep 19: Advanced Media with Chris Eller, Matt Mercer, and Tassie Gniady.  IU has a broad history of working with a variety of media and methods of interaction. In this session, you'll learn about two cutting-edge technologies: 360 and stereoscopic media. New 360 images and videos are available on your mobile phones and in virtual reality devices on a daily basis. While capturing and processing stereoscopic media is certainly not a new concept, the accessibility of stereoscopic 3D cameras and playback mechanisms has brought new attention to this form of expression. You'll also learn about the challenges and opportunities afforded by these forms of advanced media and learn how to create richer experiences.

• Thurs, Sep 26: 3D Digitization with Jeff Rogers and Tassie Gniady.  3D printing is one of the hottest sectors in technology. It enables users to fabricate personal, engineering, artistic, historic, and scientific objects like never before. But before fabricating, users must create a 3D model built digitally using 3D CAD or acquired from the real world using 3D scanning, photogrammetry, or drones. Research Technologies has been working with 3D models and supporting advanced research in this area for more than a decade – well before 3D printers were mainstream. This session will detail the equipment and workflows available to the IU community to enable 3D scanning and printing. In this session, you'll also explore photogrammetry as it relates to the creation of 3D models of real world objects.

• Thurs, Oct 03: 3D Digitization + Advanced Media Expedition with Jeff Rogers and Tassie Gniady.  Come experience a variety of advanced media outputs ranging from a large touch-screen IQ-Wall to models that have been captured using 3D digitization. • Thurs, Oct 10: 3D Digitization + Advanced Media Guest Lecture with Albert William.  Albert William, Lecturer in Media Arts & Sciences at IU Indianapolis, discusses the production pipeline he implemented in Indiana and abroad in Greece around cultural heritage materials so they may be accessed in 3D.

• Thurs, Oct 17: IQ-Walls with Chris Eller and Tassie Gniady.  Large IQ-Walls are available on the IU-Bloomington campus--in the Lugar School of Global and International Studies, in the Scholars' Commons, and in the CIB lobby, for example. Come explore how you can maximize the impact of these walls and use them to display information and research in new and creative ways.

• Thurs, Nov 07: Augmented Reality with Chauncey Frend and Tassie Gniady.  Augmented reality is an exciting field that blends the real world with a virtual and synthetic world. The most popular devices supporting augmented reality include mobile phones (think Wizards Unite or Pokemon Go!) or headsets such as the Microsoft HoloLens. In this session, learn about the latest technologies and example projects and workflows to help you begin using augmented reality.

• Thurs, Nov 14: Augmented Reality Expedition with Chauncey Frend and Tassie Gniady.  Come create your own augmented reality experience using free apps available for your phone or put on a HoloLens to see next level AR. • Thurs, Nov 21: Augmented Reality Guest Lecture with Juliet Graver Istrabadi, Michael Chabin, and Jon Racek.  Juliet will talk about her experiences using augmented reality in the Eskenazi Art Museum. Michael and Jon will present on their Bicentennial project, "Virtual IU: Making the Invisible Visible."
