This workshop lasts 1 day.

This free, 1-day camp is for high school students including 2016 graduates. Registration is required and there are limited seats. Click the + sign below where it says “See available dates for this workshop”.

Can you tell a phishing email from a legitimate email? Do you know what information your mobile device is transmitting just be being powered on? Are you curious about how hackers are able to break into web sites? Have you ever wondered how computer networks functions and are secured? Do you know how one defends against cyber attacks?

If such questions pique your interest, this summer camp is for you. In the course of 8 hours, you will get answers to these questions, learn about hot topics in cybersecurity, learn how attacks operate, and get a tour of the half-submerged, F5-tornado proof IU Data Center.

Program:

  • 8AM-9AM: Check-in and breakfast (provided)
  • 9AM-12PM:
    • Introduction
    • Phishing - How emails wreak havoc
    • Web (In) Security – Tricks hackers use (hands on)
    • Cyberethics – What is and isn’t cool

  • BREAK from 10-10:15
  • 12PM: Lunch (provided)
  • 12:30PM: Q&A
  • 1PM-4PM:

    • Mobile Phone Security
    • Network Security – Securing computer networks
    • Cyberdefense

  • 4PM-4:30PM: Data Center Tour
  • 4:30PM: Dismissal

Breakfast and lunch will be provided!

Parents and participants - please create an IU guest account for the person who is actually attending the workshop. Please do NOT use an IU faculty/staff network id to register a student. Once you have created an IU guest account, please log into the IT Training site with your IU guest account. When you log in the first time, you will be asked to create an IT Training profile for the person you will be registering. Once you have saved the profile, you can register that person for the workshop.

The linked MATERIALS must be returned to robping@iu.edu, UITS Research Technologies, CIB 350-94, 2709 E 10th St, Bloomington, IN, 47408 prior to the camp (or in-person the first day of camp).

Bring a linux, Mac, or Windows laptop. If you do not have one, one will be provided for the day.
