it2go newsletter - Training the way you want it!

Kaltura for video captions

Video services like YouTube and IU's Kaltura Mediaspace (http://kaltura.iu.edu) now make it possible for users to automatically generate captions for videos. However, those captions are not always accurate. Learn to add, manage, and edit captions in Kaltura using the Cielo Editor. The session, Kaltura: How to work with captions, on Friday, July 22 from 10—11am, is suitable for people with little or no experience working with video.

Still time this summer to learn more Access

IT Training is offering a series of Access workshops during July taking you from the very basics to more advanced skills. Jump on wherever your skillset puts you to learn more about ' relational databases. This series will run Thursday mornings from July 7 through August 4. Each of these sessions will be online. Those interested in taking the basic class in a traditional classroom setting can attend on the 7th in person in the Wells Library.

Get creative!

For those that have a creative bent, consider attending Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver or Creating Graphics for the Web all taking place in July. Photoshop and Illustrator, used for print and web, will teach you how to use Adobe’s software to create and edit photos and drawings. Dreamweaver and our Creating Graphics for the Web show you how to set up a web page and create graphics and buttons for it.

Each of these workshops will be offered in a face-to-face format on either the Bloomington or Indianapolis campus. Check out our schedule for complete descriptions and time/place.

…and remember, our fall schedule will be out soon!

Thinking of a technology career?

XML is a key technology for those entering a wide variety of technology professions. IT Training is offering two XML workshops in July focusing on major areas of XML. First, XML: The Basics, will cover the basic syntactic rules that make up an XML document and include concepts such as elements, attributes, entities and namespaces. It will also cover validation of XML documents using a Document Type Definition (DTD). In the second workshop, XML: Transforming Content with XSLT and XPath, will teach participants to transform XML data into valid XHTML using XSLT and XPath. XSLT allows a developer to transform one XML document into a variety of different formats including XHTML, PDF, and even other types of XML documents. The ability to transform XML data allows for easy reuse of information and enables a developer to display the information in numerous formats for analysis and viewing.
