Word: The Essentials

This workshop introduces some of the more commonly used commands and tools available in Microsoft Word. Intended for participants who are already comfortable with basic text editing and formatting, this workshop covers more advanced topics such as using tabs, creating lists, working with headers and footers, using styles, sorting text, and saving a Word document for the web.

Can’t make it to the workshop?

Participants will:

  • use the Ribbon and Mini toolbar
  • align text using tabs and indents
  • sort information
  • format bulleted and numbered lists
  • create headers and footers and a cover page
  • apply styles, borders and shading

The following workshops are suggested prerequisites to this workshop:

Participants should already be able to:

  • perform basic actions with the keyboard and mouse
  • format text (for example, make text bold or italicized)
  • check spelling and grammar
  • change line spacing
  • insert page breaks and page numbering
  • save backup copies of documents to a diskette
