Windows: End-User Security — What You Don’t Know CAN Hurt You

This workshop covers relevant security issues and threats that affect anyone who uses the Windows operating system. Best-practice guidelines and simulated exercises will be presented throughout the workshop to illustrate a wide range of procedures that should be used in protecting computer systems. Links to several online security-related resources will also be provided.

Can’t make it to the workshop?

Participants will:

  • use common terminology associated with Windows security
  • learn how to protect a local machine
  • explore methods for managing user accounts and passwords
  • learn how to keep Windows XP and Windows applications updated
  • examine ways to guard against computer viruses, worms, and spyware
  • learn how to use e-mail safely and protect their privacy while on the Web
