General Information

• About STEPS workshops and Certificate Series: IT Training’s award-winning STEPS instructor-led workshops are available on close to 100 beginning to advanced computing and information technology topics. STEPS Certificate Series combine multiple STEPS workshops in a sequential order; they enable you to earn certificates and increase your skills over time by attending a series of related workshops.
• Who can attend? STEPS workshops and Certificate Series are open to everyone. Advance registration is recommended, but walk-in registrations will also be accepted if seats are available.
• Workshop length: Most workshops are 90 minutes to three hours long and combine instructor-led lecture with hands-on practice. Assistants are available to help workshop participants.
• Location: Most individual STEPS workshops meet in our STEPS classrooms. Workshop locations are provided in your registration confirmation notice.
• Materials: Workshops include materials that you keep.
• Exercise files: Most workshops use exercise files which you can download from our site if you want to practice on your own.
• Special needs: We can provide assistance for persons with disabilities. Advance notice is important, so contact us if you have a need.

Workshop Descriptions and Prerequisites

Please check the description of all workshops you are registered for to see if they have recommended skills or a prerequisite workshop. If you don’t have the required skills already, you can get them by taking the prerequisite workshop or acquiring equivalent experience on your own beforehand. This will enable you to get the full benefit of the workshop you are attending.

Registration

Anyone can take STEPS workshops and Certificate Series. You can register online for individual STEPS workshops, register online for STEPS Certificate series, or contact us so we can register your for the workshop or series you want.

Workshop Charges

Most 3 hour STEPS workshops cost:

• IU students: Free (subsidized by the Student Technology Fee)
• Faculty/staff:$35
• Non-university members of non-profit organization: $50
• General public: $60

Most 90 minute and shorter STEPS workshops cost:

• IU students: Free (subsidized by the Student Technology Fee)
• Faculty/staff: $20
• Non-profit/general public: $35

Most 4 to 6 hour STEPS workshops cost:

• IU students: Free (subsidized by the Student Technology Fee)
• Faculty/staff: $40
• Non-university members of non-profit organization: $55
• General public: $65

Important note for paying STEPS Certificate Series participants

Paying participants receive a 10% discount when they register for all workshops in a STEPS Certificate Series at once.

Note: Students using a departmental account number to pay for workshops with a student fee will be charged the staff rate.

Cancellations, Rescheduling, and Refunds

If we must cancel or reschedule a STEPS workshop, we will refund your enrollment fee. If you enroll and cannot attend, we’ll refund your money if you cancel your enrollment at least three weekdays before the date of the workshop. You can cancel enrollments online from your User Profile or by contacting us. You can also reschedule your enrollment by contacting us.

Important note for paying STEPS Certificate Series participants

If you register for all workshops in a series at once and receive the 10% discount, you will not be able to cancel an individual workshop enrollment. If you are in this situation, and a conflict arises that will prevent you from attending a series workshop you are registered for, contact us and we will work with you to reschedule you into another session of the same workshop.

Important Notice on Free Registration Policy

Our workshops are popular and we therefore strive to ensure we have seats available for everyone. Anyone who registers for and fails to attend three free workshops during an academic year will lose their free registration privileges for the rest of that academic year. If you need to cancel a free workshop enrollment, please cancel your enrollment at least three weekdays before the date of the workshop to avoid this problem. You can cancel enrollments online from your user profile or by contacting us.

Anyone who loses their free registration privileges will still be able to register for a seat in free workshops by paying a registration fee. They will also be able to take advantage of the free registration option by walking in and registering at the workshop itself provided seats are available.

If you pay to attend any STEPS workshop and are not completely satisfied with it, we will cheerfully refund your registration fee.
