Microsoft Desktop eLearning Courses

Microsoft eLearning courses on Office applications and Windows end-user skills are available to all members of the statewide IU community as part of the IU campus agreement with Microsoft. These courses are combined with a powerful search tool and references to reinforce learning and help you increase your productivity. They are also certified to prepare you for taking Microsoft Office skills certification exams (Microsoft Office Specialist exams for Office 2003 and Microsoft Certified Application Specialist exams for Office 2007).

NOTE: To run the Office 2003 courses, you will need to download and install them on your computer. To run the Office 2007 courses, you will need to create a Microsoft eLearning account and a high-speed Internet connection so you can run the courses from a Microsoft server.

Free to students, faculty and staff from any IU campus (through IU’s site license with Microsoft).

Technical requirements

  • For Microsoft eLearning for Office 2003 - Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows XP
  • For Microsoft eLearning for Office 2007 - Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vista, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows XP or Windows XP Professional 64-bit
  • Note: If you have Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you may need to apply the patch described in Microsoft knowledge base article 883083.

  • Download Microsoft eLearning course for Office 2003 and Windows XP
    IU students, faculty and staff can download self-paced eLearning courses on Office 2003 applications at no charge as part of IU’s site license agreement with Microsoft. You install and run these courses on your own computer.
  • Microsoft eLearning courses for Office 2007 and Windows Vista
    IU students, faculty and staff can access self-paced eLearning courses on Office 2007 applications and Windows Vista directly from a Microsoft server.

    NOTE: This service is hosted on a Microsoft server and you will need a Windows Live ID account to access it. If you do not have a Windows Live ID account, instructions are given as to how to create one in the Microsoft eLearning Instructions document which you can download from the page you reach by following the above link. You will need to create your Windows Live ID account using a non-IU personal email address (gmail, yahoo etc.) that you already have as your username, so if you do not have such an account, you should create one for yourself first.
