FAQ
We’ve organized our current workshop offerings into various bundles as shown below. Each bundle provides the materials
in two different formats: Adobe FrameMaker (7.0) and Adobe PDF (Acrobat 5.0). A description of each bundle format and general terms of use are outlined below.
The FrameMaker versions of materials are intended for institutions and organizations that want to customize or edit the materials for their own purposes.
The materials are produced in FrameMaker 7.0 and can be altered on a Windows PC or a Macintosh.
For further information about rights and restrictions, consult our License Agreement (pdf), and,
if you are interested in providing your users with downloadable copies of the materials, the Addendum (pdf).
Includes:
- FrameMaker files for each workshop
- All related sample files (sometimes includes samples of finished projects)
- All related exercise files (includes files kept in an exercise folder for workshop)
- All related support files (includes accompanying Web pages or presentation materials)
- A copy of all files inserted or linked with the FrameMaker files
- Documentation outlining the structure of the FrameMaker book files and the use of inserts
- A copy of the Edufont font file for displaying special characters
- A keyboard map for the Edufont font characters
The materials in PDF format are designed for institutions that do not have the need to customize the materials. These files can be printed using
Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher. You can download and install Adobe Reader for free from Adobe’s Web site
.
The PDF files are locked, so they can be printed but cannot be edited electronically. For further information about rights and restrictions,
consult our License Agreement (pdf), and, if you are interested in providing your users with downloadable copies of the materials,
the Addendum (pdf).

Sales Policy
The following information summarizes how our sales and distribution model works.
Distribution Model
The materials are distributed on CDs on a biannual basis, with release dates typically scheduled for June and December.
Incentive Program
Under our sales policy, you buy a bundle or bundles once. Thereafter, you will receive biannual notices outlining changes that have been made to all of the bundles.
If you find that the offerings in a bundle have changed significantly and you want to acquire the updated materials, you can repurchase the same bundle at one-half
the current price anytime within the next calendar year. For example, if an institution buys a particular bundle in June 2009 for $700, they can buy the same bundle,
with any revisions or new workshops, anytime before July 1, 2010 for one-half of that bundle’s selling price at the time the new order is placed. However, if
you wait until September 2010 to order that same bundle, you will purchase it at full price.
Technical Support
We will provide the support you may need to understand the electronic organization of our materials, and will be glad to discuss how we use the materials
in our own setting. However, we do not provide technical support for the use of FrameMaker or Adobe Acrobat, and we do not provide technical support for
setting up your own teaching environment. We will replace any defective files if necessary.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is it possible to get the materials in Microsoft Word format?
Unfortunately, no. Our materials include many graphics to illustrate examples and clarify the use of various applications. We also have many variables,
cross-references and inserted documents in our FrameMaker files, to ease revision. We use FrameMaker because it is the best available tool for our publishing needs.
Though FrameMaker claims to be able to “convert” documents into Word format, this feature does not function well and the integrity of the materials is compromised.
Conversion is unsuccessful due to the number of graphics, the complexity and length of our materials, and limitations in Word. If you are not able to use FrameMaker to revise
our materials, we recommend you purchase the PDF bundle.
-
Are the workshops compatible with the Macintosh platform?
Though our workshops at Indiana University are taught almost exclusively in a Windows environment, many of our workshops have been tested in a
MacOS X environment and most workshops in the Web series, as well as Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, SPSS and
two of the Acrobat workshops have notes for MacOS users. Our Office workshops are not currently compatible with MacOS because of differences Microsoft
implemented in Office 2007 and Office 2008. For more information about MacOS compatibility, view our Tech Notes.
-
Can all of these workshops be taught “right out of the box”?
Most of our workshops are “self-contained” in that they only need the exercise files provided with the materials; other workshops,
especially web workshops, require the availability of accounts for participants and/or the availability of associated web resources. Though most web sites remain
up-to-date on our server, we recommend you publish workshop web pages at your home institution. We cannot guarantee that the needed sites will remain “live”
or unchanged on our server or that our server will be available. In addition, some workshops do require more specific support. For example, the Outlook
workshops are written assuming that participants have access to either their own or demonstration accounts. For further information regarding specific
requirements for workshops, see our Tech Notes.
-
Are there restrictions concerning how we distribute copies of these materials?
These materials are provided at a low cost for non-profit or educational institutions so that individuals can receive high-quality training that may
otherwise be out of their reach. Therefore, these materials may be delivered only to members of your institution free of charge or for the cost of reproduction
and handling. They may not be sold or delivered for profit, or made accessible on an open web server. For further information, please consult the appropriate
license agreement — License Agreement (pdf) or, if you are interested in providing your users with downloadable copies
of the materials, see Addendum.
-
Is there technical support available?
We do not provide technical support for conducting workshops or for the creation of a teaching environment. For more information, see our
support policy.
-
Are any other materials purchasing options available?
Individual printed copies of our materials can be purchased directly from our Web site for self-study purposes only. Materials purchased in
this way are not to be used for classroom instruction. To find out more about self-study materials, visit our Order Materials page.
